Phynova is a British life science company based outside Oxford that develops and commericalises proprietary over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and functional food ingredients. It has a subsidiary company, Botanic Century, based in Beijing, China. Phynova’s discovery engine identifies actives from medicinal plants , and utilising modern science, develops them into innovative solutions for global health issues. Phynova has regulatory approval to begin marketing its lead product for blood glucose control in the USA and China, and has MHRA licences for a new OTC drugs for joint and rheumatic pains, and cold and flu. In 2015, Phynova was the first company to secure MHRA approval for a traditional Chinese medicine as an OTC drug in the UK.
Phynova’s innovative products have been recognised by national and international awards committees. Reducose® was runner-up in NutraIngredients Ingredient of the Year award for 2016. The UK’s funding body for innovative corporate R&D recognised the development of Reducose® in the 2016 edition of the Innovate UK SME Innovation Awards, where it was runner up in the category ‘Innovation leading to new markets’. Global Health and Pharma named Phynova ‘Global leader in plant based compounds and pharmaceuticals’ and also recognised Phynova Joint and Muscle Relief Tablets as ‘Best natural pain reliever’ in their 2016 awards. Research conducted by Phynova on Reducose® has been published in peer-review journals including PLoS One, Diabetes UK annual conference, International Journal of Toxicology, and Trials Journal.
